Reading with Alidio and Szymaszek

St. Rocco’s Reading for the Dispossessed for November 2023 welcomes Stacy Szymaszek and Kimberly Alidio to Albany for a reading and celebration of Kimberly’s new book, Teeter.

Gather at 4pm. Readings begin promptly at 4:30pm.

Kimberly Alidio is the author of two chapbooks and four books of poetry, including Teeter, an autohistoriography of felt time that arises from subversive hearing practices and the emotional prosody of a mother tongue one does not understand but activates in another poetic language. A winner of the Nightboat Poetry Prize, Teeter will be published in 2023. She lives on Munsee-Mohican lands along the Mahicannituck River, otherwise known as New York’s Upper Hudson Valley.

Stacy Szymaszek is from Milwaukee, WI and studied poetry at the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee. Szymaszek is the author of seven books of poetry: Emptied of All Ships (2005), Hyperglossia (2009), hart island (2015), Journal of Ugly Sites and Other Journals (2016), which won the Ottoline Prize from Fence Books and was nominated for a Lambda Literary Award in 2017, A Year From Today (2018), The Pasolini Book (2022), and most recently, Famous Hermits (2023). Szymaszek has been a visiting writer at the University of Montana-Missoula, Brown University, and Fire Island Artist Residency; visiting faculty for Naropa University’s Summer Writing Program; workshop teacher for Woodland Pattern, 92Y, The Poetry Project, and Wendy’s Subway. She serves on the board of directors for Wendy’s Subway and Committee on Poetry, and was the director of The Poetry Project from 2007-2018.
